As the Design Director for Volume 9 of Apricity, UT Austin’s international literary and arts magazine, I led the visual concept and execution for this year’s theme: Seasons of the Ocean. Inspired by the ocean’s cyclical rhythms—its moments of serenity and storm—the volume explores the duality of stillness and chaos through design, structure, and flow.

The publication is divided into three thematic sections:
Upwelling, a time of renewal and creative emergence;
Oceanic, a tranquil space for reflection and depth;
Winter Storm, a plunge into darkness, uncertainty, and transformation.

In collabortion with three other designers, we developed a visual language that echoes these emotional tides, using color, typography, and layout to guide readers through each phase. Each section features a distinct mood while maintaining cohesion across the volume. From the cover to the final spread, my goal was to create a reading experience that feels immersive, expressive, and emotionally resonant—much like the sea itself.

Collaborating with writers, artists, and editors, I helped bring this multidisciplinary collection to life in a way that honors both the theme and the contributors’ voices. This volume is not just a book—it’s a journey through changing tides.
